Scientists and the Regulation of Risk PDF
By:David Demortain
Published on 2011-10-01 by Edward Elgar Publishing

Risks are increasingly regulated by international standards, and scientists play a key role in standardisation. This fascinating book exposes the action of 'invisible colleges' of scientists - loose groups of prominent scientific experts who combine practical experience of risk and control with advisory responsibility - in the formulation of international standards. Drawing upon the domains of medicines, 'novel foods' and food hygiene, David Demortain investigates new regulatory concepts emerging from invisible colleges, highlighting how they shape consensus and pave the way for international.

Transnational Marketing and Transnational Consumers PDF
By:Ibrahim Sirkeci
Published on 2013-05-17 by Springer Science & Business Media

Transnational Marketing and Transnational Consumers are becoming increasingly common in today's globalizing and fast moving world of business. This book presents a fresh perspective focusing on the transnational character of organizations and firms while underlining the importance of the transnationality of marketing strategies for success. At the same time, it introduces the novel concepts of Transnational Consumers and Transnational Mobile Consumers which take into account the increasing human mobility and its implications for marketing success. This book gives flesh to the ever popular shorthand |glocal| referring to strategies thinking globally but acting locally. This is the reality of current business environment where the norm is fast mobility of goods, services, finance, and consumers.\u200b Transnational Mobility of Consumers is of increasing importance for understanding transnational marketing. Prof. Ibrahim Sirkeci’s new book, Transnational Marketing and Transnational Consumers, deals with this important issue in an excellent way. The Economics of Iraq PDF - How To Download

The Economics of Iraq PDF
By:Amer K. Hirmis
Published on 2018-03-12 by Grosvenor House Publishing

Meticulously researched and written by Dr Amer K. Hirmis the book takes readers 6000 years back to early Mesopotamian polity, culture, and religious codes which shaped the economy, and continue to shape much of the body of Iraq’s polity, economy and society today. Economic inefficiency, inequality and lack of sufficient employment are common threads that run throughout Mesopotamian/Iraqi economic history. The persistence of poverty, high unemployment, conscious discrimination against women, and a polity dictating blind allegiance and obedience from the subjects to the ruler, denied the Iraqis achieving economic development, the ultimate aim of which is the sustained improvement of the well-being of the people. Even when economic growth was attained, it was desperately non-inclusive. With a novel approach to economic development, this book examines Iraq’s economy over the past 100 years. It establishes the historical roots in the consumption patterns, nature of the producers, the economic structure, trade, monetary and fiscal policy and resource allocation. In all these areas the echoes from the ancient past are striking. The principles of Sumerian taxes are still applied in present-day Iraq. The book proposes a set of conditions, which will need to be created for Iraq to achieve economic development and functional democracy, in the distant future.

World Food Prices, the Terms of Trade-Real Exchange Rate Nexus, and Monetary Policy PDF - How To Download

World Food Prices, the Terms of Trade-Real Exchange Rate Nexus, and Monetary Policy PDF
By:Mr. Luis Catão,Roberto Chang
Published on 2013-05-17 by International Monetary Fund

How should monetary policy respond to large fluctuations in world food prices? We study this question in an open economy model in which imported food has a larger weight in domestic consumption than abroad and international risk sharing can be imperfect. A key novelty is that the real exchange rate and the terms of trade can move in opposite directions in response to world food price shocks. This exacerbates the policy trade-off between stabilizing output prices vis a vis the real exchange rate, to an extent that depends on risk sharing and the price elasticity of exports. Under perfect risk sharing, targeting the headline CPI welfare-dominates targeting the PPI if the variance of food price shocks is not too small and the export price elasticity is realistically high. In such a case, however, targeting forecast CPI is a superior choice. With incomplete risk sharing, PPI targeting is clearly a winner.
